Located on the NSW coastline, Blacksmiths Public School faced significant structural degradation in its existing walkway system. Years of exposure to salt air had led to rusting, instability, and safety risks for staff and students. The corroded steel structure was no longer compliant or fit for use. The structure was very low and dark, not wide enough to account for sufficient storm water drainage, and its blue colour was mismatched to the new grey colour scheme of the school buildings.
