Chittaway Bay Public School required a safe and weather-protected connection between its main school buildings and an existing COLA which covered sporting grounds on the opposite side of the oval. Previously, staff and students were exposed to the elements while moving across a narrow concrete path and deteriorated asphalt section that no longer met accessibility or safety standards. The school’s priority was to create a durable, compliant and aesthetically cohesive walkway system that matched existing structures, integrated lighting and stormwater systems, and maintained access for emergency vehicles, all with minimal disruption during school term.
Walkwayz delivered a 70 lineal metre covered walkway system with a new wider pathway, providing a protected, accessible and integrated link between the school and its sporting grounds. Key features included:
A challenging aspect of this project was the proximity to the existing perimeter fence as well as many large trees, all of which needed to be factored into the design and installation processes from the outset. The Walkwayz team overcame these challenges by carefully dismantling and reinstating the existing fencing panels during footing works to preserve both the fence’s structural integrity and the walkway’s engineering design, and the adaptability of the Walkwayz product allowed the team to modify the design to weave through the trees without impact to their root systems.
The new walkway has transformed daily movement, connectivity and safety across campus. Students and staff now enjoy safe, weather-protected access between school buildings and sporting areas, rain, hail or shine. It’s achieved:
Walkwayz’ commitment to transparent communication, quality workmanship and a collaborative approach was clearly demonstrated throughout this project, reflected in the positive feedback received from the client.
