Raymond Terrace Public School

Connected, Compliant and Future-Ready

The Challenge

Raymond Terrace Public School had ageing and rotten timber walkways that no longer provided adequate weather protection, drainage or connectivity between buildings. Existing structures created dark, enclosed spaces that restricted visibility from classrooms, while flooding issues impacted pedestrian access across the campus. This site posed a particularly significant challenge in that critical services including fibre optic networks, ICT cabling, public address systems, security infrastructure and electrical services ran along the existing walkways aboveground. These essential systems needed to be safely relocated and upgraded without disrupting school operations. Adding further complexity, the works needed to preserve established trees, integrate seamlessly with existing buildings and allow for inclusion of accessibility ramps.

Our Solution

Walkwayz designed and delivered approximately 100 metres of new covered walkways, creating a continuous, weather-protected connection between key learning spaces while addressing longstanding drainage and infrastructure issues. Key features included:

  • Fully certified and EFSG-compliant covered walkway system
  • Integrated stormwater management with upgraded guttering and drainage
  • Bespoke roof design and integration with existing buildings, incorporating a 5m roof height section to enhance natural light for classroom learning
  • Relocation and protection of critical ICT, fibre, security, communications and electrical services
  • Covered access to accessibility ramps and key pedestrian routes
  • Environmental protection measures to preserve existing trees and landscaping

Through detailed planning, dynamic programming and close collaboration with the school, the project was completed safely, on time and with minimal disruption.

The Result

The new covered walkway network has transformed connectivity, safety and usability across the school. Raymond Terrace Public School now benefits from continuous weather-protected access between buildings, improved drainage, enhanced visibility from classrooms and modernised integrated infrastructure designed for long-term reliability. The success of the project resulted in Walkwayz being awarded a second stage of works at the school, reflecting the client’s confidence and satisfaction in the team’s planning, communication, problem-solving and quality workmanship. This project demonstrates Walkwayz’ ability to solve complex infrastructure challenges while delivering compliant, durable and architecturally integrated covered walkway solutions that provide lasting value for school communities.
