Tuggerah Lakes Secondary college – The Entrance Campus

Connected, Accessible and Designed for Everyday Use

The Challenge

Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College – The Entrance Campus required a safer, more accessible and weather-protected connection all the way from the carpark to key areas throughout the school grounds. Students, staff and visitors were exposed to the elements from drop off zones to the heart of the school and its facilities. The existing pedestrian network lacked covered access, accessibility was limited due to narrow walkways, and the school’s drop-off arrangements required improvement to better accommodate students with mobility needs. The project involved navigating a complex network of critical underground services while maintaining safe access and minimising disruption to daily school operations.

Our Solution

Walkwayz delivered a comprehensive campus connectivity upgrade, creating a fully integrated, compliant and weather-protected pedestrian network that enhances both functionality and accessibility. Key features included:

  • 154 linear metres of covered walkways connecting the carpark, administration building, student hall and surrounding learning spaces
  • Cantilevered covered shelter providing a dedicated wheelchair-accessible drop-off zone with unobstructed vehicle access
  • 170m² removal and replacement of concrete paving to improve connectivity and site integration
  • New compliant accessibility ramps, tactile indicators and safety bollards throughout key access points
  • Complete upgrade of stormwater infrastructure and services
  • Careful staging and delivery within a live school environment

Working closely with school stakeholders, Walkwayz maintained regular communication, implemented safe pedestrian detours and coordinated construction activities around school operations, ensuring seamless delivery, completing the project on time and within budget.

The Result

The new covered walkway network has transformed how students, staff and visitors move through the campus. Continuous weather protection, improved accessibility and safer drop-off facilities have significantly enhanced the day-to-day experience across the school. The upgraded walkways have also created valuable new gathering spaces. Areas that were previously narrow pedestrian bottlenecks have been widened and transformed into functional, sheltered spaces now used for school activities and community events, including fundraising barbecues. Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College now benefits from safer pedestrian movement, improved accessibility, enhanced weather protection and a future-ready campus environment designed to support the school community for years to come. This project demonstrates Walkwayz’ ability to deliver complex accessibility and infrastructure upgrades that combine engineering excellence, compliance and architectural integration within active educational environments.
